The book “Everything You Need to Know about Radiation and Radioactivity” aims to help readers understand the role of radiation in the creation of the world, the evolution of humankind, and science and technological progress. The book, which is designed for readers of all ages, describes in popular language how important radiation has become in our contemporary lives and how it has penetrated virtually all areas of human activity, including military and civilian industry and medicine.
The book reviews international standards and requirements, the application of which is necessary to protect humans from the negative effects of radiation. Further, it looks at international cooperation in the area of radiation safety and the current multilateral formats of this. Many issues discussed in the book are viewed through the prism of their relevance to Georgia and are likely to generate much interest in the Georgian reader.
The book was prepared as part of the project “Strengthening educational and scientific research opportunities in the area of nuclear nonproliferation 2020-2021” implemented by the Civil Council of Defense and Security with support from the Swedish Agency for Radiation Safety.
