A training course on youth engagement in self-governance was organized by young activists participating in the CCDS project Youth for Pluralism and Democracy in Kutaisi on 24 September. The goal of the project is to strengthen youth participation in democratic processes and support the inclusion of diverse groups in local decision making. Participants of the training course which was conducted by the trainer Irakli Kikvadze were mostly university students who take interest in civic engagement and local self-governance.

The course explored topics such as the Georgian legislation on local self-government, citizens’ participation, needs of vulnerable groups, party politics, etc. A model city assembly meeting was conducted at the end of the session.

The training was held in the framework of the project Youth for Pluralism and Democracy which is implemented by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and Max Planck Foundation with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
