Professors Giorgi Japaridze and Lia Tchelidze of the Institute of Physics gave a lecture on nuclear energy, nuclear power plants and their impact on the world for a selected group of journalists on 22 September.

The speakers explained what nuclear energy is and how it is generated and used. Underlining the huge importance of nuclear power plants for the economy, the speakers also touched on the threats that they pose for humankind.

The notions of nuclear security and nuclear safety were discussed along with measures to secure safe nuclear energy development and prevent threats and risks of nuclear accidents and pollution.

The lecture was arranged by the Civil Council on Defense and Security in the framework of the project for journalists - Everything About Nuclear and Radiation Security, with financial support from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.
