The project Promoting Pluralism and Media Freedom in Georgia is dedicated to supporting diversity, inclusion, and respect for varying opinions. It employs a multifaceted approach, including blogs, study visits, discussions, policy meetings, awareness campaigns and networking. Target groups range from youth to policymakers, with a focus on specific regions to create a more understanding and inclusive society. As part of the project, mini-projects were implemented by civil society representatives from three regions of Georgia: Kvemo Kartli, Samkhtse-Javakheti and Ajara.
More specifically, two mini-projects were initiated in Kvemo Kartli. One project aimed to foster intercultural dialogue among high school students of different ethnicities by bringing them together in Marneuli and immersing them into Azeri culture. The other project involved the Georgian public defender’s visit to Marneuli and holding discussions on child marriages and local challenges. Insights from these discussions will be reflected in the Public Defender’s annual report.
In Akhatsikhe, the mini-project Path to Pluralistic Democracy facilitated the use of FB page for information sharing and organized a media workshop and a discussion on conflict resolution issues. Another project explored religious diversity in Akhatsikhe, with a particular focus on the Catholic community. Two articles were written and translated into English, and a study tour of religious sites were organized as part of the project.
In Adjara, two mini projects aimed at youth engagement highlighted the issues of tolerance, inclusion and peace. One project focused on the importance of active citizenship and diversity acceptance among the youth and another – on youth perspectives on post-conflict tranquility. Both projects underscored the importance of dialogue in addressing societal issues.
Overall, these projects have made an effort to contribute to building trust, combatting disinformation, respecting diversity and fostering a more understanding and inclusive society in Georgia.
