CCDS hosted a conference, “Peace and Security in the Context of New and Evolving Threats: Perspectives from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia”. The conference was held on 2 May at Hilton Garden Inn in Tbilisi and was attended by academics, experts, journalists and civil society activists from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia who work on issues related to peace, security and conflict resolution in the region.

At the first session, experts presented their views on Russia’s War in Ukraine and its Impact on the South Caucasus states. A wide range of topics related to security, civil society, conflict resolution and ethical considerations in politics were discussed. The second session focused on geopolitics and the role of regional powers in South Caucasus. Speakers discussed the concepts of human and national security, the prospects for peace, the geopolitical competition in the region and the political transformation of South Caucasus.

At the final session of the conference, local and invited experts discussed the current political dialogue among the South Caucasus states and potential ways of stimulating it. Specifically, they presented their views on new challenges and opportunities for cooperation in the region, as well as the Western sanctions policy.

The conference was a part of the CCDS project “Peace and Security in the South Caucasus in the Context of New and Evolving Threats”, which was launched in March 2023 with support from the GMF Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation.
