CCDS, in partnership with the American organization SECURUS, hosted a series of workshops on 13-21 July 2023 for state agencies, industries and financial institutions on advanced conventional weapons (ACWs) and ways to identify and prevent transactions with prohibited entities.

The project is supported by the Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction at the US State Department’s Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation ((ISN/CTR).

SECURUS director Richard Glen Young and experts Emily Holub and Kevin Oney delivered presentations on advanced conventional weapons proliferation, proliferator state activities, international responses, and other related topics to three groups of participants. Dr. Togzhan Kassenova from New York University in her presentation covered the topic of proliferation financing.

Georgian participants spoke about Georgia’s responses to Western sanctions against Russia and compliance issues. CCDS presented its recent study on Georgia’s observance of international sanctions against Russia.

Georgian Government members, representatives of the industry and logistics sector and financial institutions underlined the importance of discussing issues related to sanctions compliance, identifying the challenging issues in the area.
