The author of the presented lectures is Dr. Thomas Jonter, Professor at Stockholm University (Sweden). His lectures were translated into Georgian in 2020 and been prepared for publication by the Civil Council on Defense and Security, in the framework of its Defense and Security Project “Strengthening Nuclear Non-Proliferation Education and Research Capacities in Georgia” with the support of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.  The aim of recording lectures was to prepare an additional chapter for the 2007 textbook “Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Guarantees” co-authored by Thomas Jonter and Anne Hakanson.  This edition, along with the 2007 textbook, is intended for both – University students and people working in nuclear industry, as well as researches working on nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear safety issues.
