A project which aims to give voice and visibility to ethnic minority women started in Telavi on 20 September. The first activity under the project Women for Change, which is being implemented by young activists in the region, was a webinar on women’s political engagement. Eto Shiukashvili, the regional representative of the Ombudsman’s Office in Kakheti, spoke about women’s engagement in politics and the related challenges in the Georgian regions. To corroborate her arguments, the speaker cited the findings of research carried out by the Ombudsman’s Office on the topic.

In October, as part of the project, the project participants filmed several girls from the village of Duisi in Pankisi Gorge. The girls shared their experiences of civil activism, political engagement and civil integration. On 28 October, with the help of the Telavi Mayor’s Office, the young activists hosted a presentation of the video-clip Women for Change at the Youth Palace in Telavi.

The above activities were carried out in the framework of the project Youth for Pluralism and Democracy, which is implemented by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and Max Planck Foundation, with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
