July 7 marked an opening of the project “Youth for Pluralism and Democracy”, which gathers young people aged 18-25 from different regions of Georgia. Attendees are youngsters interested in civil activism and during 2 day trainings they will broaden their view of human rights, diversity and inclusion, equality, working of state institutions in democratic system and initiate changes in their local communities or regions.
Three sessions of 2 day trainings were held via zoom platform, on July7-8, July 12-13 and July 19-20,gathering over 70 participants from different parts of Georgia. By the end of the year Civil Council will held several seminars and trainings on actual issues of democracy during which Georgian and German mentors will help participants to plan and conduct their personal projects. These young people will have an opportunity to understand how local governments and other state institutions work and how a simple citizen can make changes in it.
Due to the pandemic, all the meetings are held in online format, however in the end of the project Civil Council will host a Youth Forum in Tbilisi.
The project is conducted by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and Max Planck Foundation, with the financial support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
