A lecture on nuclear non-proliferation and international security was conducted on 20 September for a selected group of journalists by Tamar Pataraia of CCDS.
Ms Pataraia briefly overviewed the global nuclear order which aims to address the challenges of nuclear non-proliferation. She then spoke about the countries that own nuclear weapons and the ones that may possess them but have not declared about such ownership. A particular focus was made on North Korea, which has more than once stated that it may use its nuclear weapons preemptively.
The speaker spoke at length about some important agreements, such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and AUKUS - a trilateral US-UK-Australia treaty under which the USA and UK pledge to provide nuclear submarines to Australia.
The event was organized by the Civil Council on Defense and Security, in the framework of the project for journalists - Everything About Nuclear and Radiation Security, with financial support of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.
