On 8 September, Dr. Philipp Fluri, an expert in International politics and security, delivered a lecture on ‘Democratization and transformation of the security sector in Eastern Europe’ for a group of young activists participating in the CCDS project Youth for Pluralism and Democracy.
The speaker started his presentation with explaining the concept of security itself. Security as a unity of services, governmental, as well as non-governmental, outside and inside the countries, was discussed. Further, Dr. Fluri briefly overviewed major historical facts in Europe’s political life in the late 20tth century and spoke about the process of democratization in Eastern Europe after the Cold War. Dr. Fluri spoke about some of the obstacles on the way to the change and underlined the importance of global organizations in overcoming them.
The lecture was held in the framework of the project Youth for Pluralism and Democracy implemented by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and Max Planck Foundation with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
