Tamar Khidasheli, an expert in human rights, gender and democratization issues, gave an online lecture for a group of young activists on 6 September.
At the outset, Ms Khidasheli overviewed the history of the development of human rights. After that she listed universally recognized rights and explained individual rights in detail. She then discussed some of the major documents pertaining to human rights that are adopted by countries throughout the world and used as the basis of modern jurisdiction.
A number of cases of human rights violations along with the responses to them were discussed. The speaker underlined the role of non-governmental organizations in protecting human rights.
The event was held in the framework of the project Youth for Pluralism and Democracy, which is implemented by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and Max Planck Foundation, with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
