A lecture about Policy of Religious Diversity in Modern Georgia was conducted on August 6, 2021 By Rusudan Gotsiridze, bishop of Georgia’s Evangelist-Baptist church, a women’s rights activist and master of Christian theology from Ilia State University.

During the Lecture Ms.Gotsiridze discussed historical context of religious diversity and religious policy in Georgia, as well as in the world(mostly in Christian world). Topics such as connection between national identity and religion, church in independent Georgia and its role during past years, as well as changes in the practice were presented.

The importance of separating religion and education, as well as meaning of religious extremism and what’s Georgia’s case in this regard, were spoken. Main changes and actions taken in sake of protecting religious diversity in Georgia, such as State Agency of Religious Questions, the order of letting prisoners practice their religion and ask for the appropriate confessor, were also discussed.

The lecture was held in the framework of the project Youth for Pluralism and Democracy, which is conducted by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and Max Planck Foundation, with the financial support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
