Lectures about deterrence and different nuclear policies were conducted during September 9 - October 1, by the Stockholm University professor of international relations, Tomas Jonter. Attendees included academic staff of the Batumi State University.
The first lecture was dedicated to Deterrence in a Multipolar World, which included topics such as history and appearance of first massive atomic bombs, nuclear arms race between USSR and USA, deterrence strategy, modern nuclear arms race and nuclear order. While second one focused on The Adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, including topics of historical background of the treaty, the process towards the TPNW, the ban treaty and its main goals and prospects for success.
During other two lectures the Future of Nuclear Power and a New Nuclear Order were discussed. Dr. Jonter talked about so called Nuclear Renaissance, Fukushima accident, nuclear strategies of different governmental organizations and states, changes from bipolar to multipolar systems and a new nuclear order in the making.
The lectures took place as a part of the project Diversity and Inclusion in Defense and Security Institutions, organized by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and were supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Georgia. For further details please check the attachments.
