Workshop“Georgian and Sweden in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime: Global, Regional and Practical Issues” held in 14-15 April, 2011 in Tbilisi Marriott Hotel. The Workshop was organized by Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM), the Civil Council on Defense and Security and the Caucasus Institute for Peace Democracy and Development. The workshop gathered Georgian officials and experts, Swedish representatives and international participants.
The Workshop discussd perspectives and new approaches how to strengthen nuclear security and how to create a common agenda for cooperation on nuclear security and nuclear non-proliferation issues between Sweden and Georgia. Particularly were discussed the following topics: The Global Nuclear Proliferation/Non-Proliferation Agenda; Swedish-Georgian Views of the NPT RC in 2010; Sweden and Georgia in the Frameworks of GP, Nuclear Summit and UNSC 1540; Swedish and Georgian Nuclear Experience in a Historical Perspective; Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation on Nuclear Security issues in the Black Sea Region; Creating a Common Agenda for Cooperation on Nuclear Security and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Issues between Sweden and Georgia”
Sweden and Georgia has had four years of cooperation in the fields of nuclear security, nuclear nonproliferation and other relevant issues. Under this cooperation projects on physical protection of nuclear materials and combating illicit trafficking have been implemented. Currently further activities are been discussed and coordinated also with other external parties such as the US and the UK governments.
