The Advanced Research Workshop titled "Digital Tools for Prevention, Mitigation, and Treatment of Traumatic Stress Responses" was held in Tbilisi, Georgia, from the 9th to the 13th of September 2024.
During the war in Ukraine, it became apparent that digital tools effectively reduced the mental sequelae of war. The crisis affected not only the Ukrainian people but millions of others, demanding the swift delivery of effective psychological support guidelines and interventions, highlighting the value of digital formats. Several initiatives fostering the development of digital mental health tools that efficiently promote resilience in war-affected populations were already ongoing.
The aim of the workshop was to contribute substantially to these initiatives. It built on the Advanced Research Workshop that took place in 2018 in Odessa, Ukraine, which led to the establishment of a highly active international scientific network dedicated to optimizing the prevention and treatment of trauma-related psychiatric disorders in response to terror in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war.
The event was supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme and was implemented by the Medical Center of Leiden University (Netherlands) and the Civil Council on Defense and Security (CCDS) in cooperation with various institutions worldwide, including Sheba Medical Center - Tel Aviv University, University Clinic of Bonn, Germany, Bogomolets National Medical University, Kyiv, Ukraine, and Georgian American University.
