A workshop  "Defense and Security Sector Reform in Georgia: Current State of Affairs and a Way Ahead" was held on 6-7 December 2016 at the Ilia Chavchavadze Hall at the Parliament of Georgia, Tbilisi. It was organized by the Civil Council on Defense and Security, Parliamentary committee on defence and security, Defence Institution Building School of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF).

The main focus of the conference was to review the ongiong reforms of military service system as well as the practice of  democratic oversight over the security sector in Georgia.

During the conference the following topics were discussed: changed security environment: new incentives for defense reform, debating the military service reform: international best practices, defence institution building challenges: building integrity in defence,  democratic and effective oversight over the defense and intelligence services.
