The training for journalists “Global Security and Strategic Trade Control” was conducted on June 21-22, 2018 at the Courtyard-Marriott Tbilisi hotel. The training was organized by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and was supported by the United States Department of State and the Argonne National Laboratories (US). In the training participated journalists of various media organizations of Georgia – TVs, Radio, Internet editions, newspapers from Tbilisi and other regions of Georgia.
The training covered the following topics: Introduction to Non-proliferation system - Main issues, terms and definitions; Strategic Trade Control in Georgia, international best practices and the role of international partners in the development of export control system in Georgia; WMD Nonproliferation challenges and global export control system: Promoting Trade, Security, and Non-proliferation; Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) security and illegal trafficking of CBRN materials; Non-proliferation Challenges, Global Trends - Case study of Iran-Georgia trade relations; History of the Mtskheta reactor, construction and scientific activities etc. The training also included study tours at the Richard Lugar Public Health Research Center and the decommissioned nuclear reactor in Mtskheta, Georgia.
