The Roundtable discussion: Constitutional Reform on Security and Defense Office of the National Security Council of Georgia in Cooperation with NATO Liaison Office Georgia Civil Council on Defense and Security (Georgia) and DCAF (Geneva) workshop was held on 1 june 2017 at the President's Palace. The event was organized by the Civil Council On Defense And Security, Parliament of Georgia and The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces.
Public discussions on the new constitution draft are actively going on in Georgia. However, thorough discussion of the constitutional amendments’ impact on the national security system hasn’t been held yet. National security efforts are key factors for the country's democratic development and Euro-Atlantic integration. Therefore, on May 10, 2017 in the frame of Tbilisi Strategic Discussions, the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili and the Secretary of the National Security Council, Davit Rakviashvili invited the representatives of diplomatic corps, legislative and executive branches of the Government and non-governmental organizations to discuss the impact of constitutional amendments.
At the meeting personal opinion on constitutional amendments and its possible impact on national security system was expressed by: the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili; Secretary of the National Security Council David Rakviashvili; Leader of the Parliamentary Majority Archil Talakvadze; General Secretary of Free Democrats political party Tamar Kekenadze; former Defence Minister Tinatin Khidasheli; former Deputy Defence Minister and Founder of the Georgian Strategic Analysis Center Nodar Kharshiladze; former Deputy Defence Minister and Vice-President of the Atlantic Council Batu Kutelia; former Deputy Defence Minister and Director of GRASS (Georgian Reforms Association) Paata Gaprindashvili and former Deputy Foreign Minister and a member of Parliamentary Opposition Sergi Kapanadze.
