On 24 November, CCDS hosted the screening of the documentary "Fighting for Life at the Cost of Life" at the Ukrainian Civil Society Hub at the Station Europe Building of the European Parliament in Brussels. Ukraine’s ambassador to the EU was in attendance along with other guests.
The documentary is about Georgians who fight on the Ukrainian side in the Russia-Ukraine war. The film features interviews with members of the Georgian Legion, the largest foreign unit actively engaged in the war against Russia in Ukraine at the time. The film looks into the motivation and reasons behind the fighters’ decision to enlist in Ukraine's Armed Forces and risk their lives for the survival of another nation.
"Fighting for Life at the Cost of Life" encapsulates the emotions, resolve and sacrifice of the Georgian fighters. Through personal narratives and battlefield footage, the audience is transported to the epicentre of the conflict, where human resilience and the struggle for freedom are paramount.
The documentary goes beyond geopolitics and statistics to humanize the conflict in Ukraine, presenting the human aspect of the story. It is an essential for those seeking a more profound understanding of the extraordinary sacrifices made by ordinary individuals in extraordinary circumstances.
