On 11-12 May, CCDS brought together participants of the US-Black Sea Nonproliferation Professional Exchange Programme at a regional forum in Tbilisi.
The first day of the conference was dedicated to discussions on the Black Sea region: security challenges and cooperation perspectives in the context of evolving threats, nuclear nonproliferation and Russia's War in Ukraine, Georgia ‘s nuclear security and its nonproliferation profile - policy, research and education, as well as other global developments, such as NATO enlargement and the Western sanctions against Russia.
On the second day, the sessions were focused on research and publications by the US-Black Sea Nuclear Network and the future plans of the US-Black Sea Nonproliferation Professional Exchange Programme. Speakers were experts from the Black Sea countries, who presented case studies from their respective countries. The speeches were followed by a discussion.
The conference concluded with a trip to the Mtskheta Nuclear Reactor which is currently decommissioned.
The conference was organized by the Civil Council on Defense and Security, with support from the Embassy of the United States of America in Tbilisi.
