On 22-24 August 2022, CCDS organized the 7th annual Batumi Summer University, which gathered around 40 scholars, experts, young professionals and university students who take interest in international relations, nuclear security and non-proliferation.
The focus of the summer university was ‘Nuclear security after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine: New challenges and risks’. Experts made presentations on a wide range of issues, including the current state of global security and the nuclear non-proliferation regime, regional security challenges against the background of the war in Ukraine, the security perspective of the Indo-China region in the present context of Russia’s aggression, regional security and capacity needs in turbulent times, etc.
The 7th summer university was held both face to face at the Batumi State University campus and online. Presentations delivered in situ were complemented with online lectures during which researchers from King’s College London and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies shared their experience.
The event was organized in partnership with Batumi State University, with which CCDS has been cooperating since 2015. Batumi Summer University has been set up as a product of this cooperation to spread knowledge about international security and nuclear non-proliferation. The 7th summer university was organized thanks to the support from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) and the Regional EXBS Programme of the US Embassy Tbilisi.
