The sixth Batumi Summer University kicked off at the Batumi State University (BSU) on 1 November. For six consecutive years, CCDS has been organizing summer university sessions in Batumi. The goal of setting up the university was to support and strengthen research skills of the academic staff and young professionals from Georgian universities. Accordingly, summer university participants have been professors, academic staff and doctoral students of the universities from around Georgia. Topics of discussions at the sessions have included global security and nuclear non-proliferation, recent research trends in nuclear security, challenges of developing academic discipline, etc.
CCDS and BSU have been actively cooperating since 2015 and the Batumi Summer University has been set up as a product of this cooperation to spread knowledge about international security and nuclear non-proliferation.
The summer university project has been implemented by the Civil Council on Defense and Security in cooperation with Batumi State University. The project has been financially supported by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM).
