The 5th Tbilisi International Forum for Regional Stability: "Nuclear and Radiological Security in the Black Sea Region" was held on 23-24 September 2024 in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The aim of the Forum was to bring together various actors to discuss a common nuclear security agenda for the wider Black Sea region through the lenses of global and regional trends and developments, to seek ways to overcome existing nonproliferation challenges, and to create new opportunities for peace and cooperation.
The agenda of the 5th Tbilisi International Forum for Regional Stability featured discussions on several pressing issues: the challenges facing the nuclear non-proliferation regime in the wake of Russia's military incursion into Ukraine, with insights from both regional and global stakeholders; initiatives by Black Sea nations to achieve their radiation and nuclear security goals; the shifting landscape of illicit trafficking amid evolving geopolitical conditions; collaboration and knowledge-sharing among experts in nuclear security and nonproliferation; and the growing risks posed by emerging CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) threats, alongside strategies for addressing them.
For the fifth time, the Civil Council on Defense and Security (CCDS) organized the Forum in cooperation with the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the US Department of State.
