The 2nd Tbilisi International Forum for Regional Stability was held on 5- 6 October 2016 in the Courtyard Marriott, Tbilisi. The Conference was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, State Security Service of Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Radiation Safety Agency of Ministry of Environment of Georgia and the Civil Council on Defense and Security (Tbilisi, Georgia) in close co-operation and financial support of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, Department of State of the USA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland and the UK Department of Energy & Cliamte Change.
The main goal of the Forum was to introduce an annual gathering in Tbilisi with participation of high level officials, representatives of international institutions and experts working in the area of nuclear non-proliferation and security. The Forum intended to increase the interest and motivation among stakeholders and participants to launch a substantial debate in Georgia on the strengthening of the global nuclear security architecture and to promote a wider regional debate on vital issues of global security.
Participants discussed the following topics at the Forum: the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) process as a toolbox and creator of the present and future agenda for security, global nuclear security challenges and the issues facing the Black Sea region, illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials resulting from the existence of nncontrolled territories, international terrorism and nuclear security and countermeasures for the Black Sea region – national actions and international interactions in the years ahead.
