The 2nd GUAM Countries’ Conference on Nuclear and Radioactive Waste Safety and Security was conducted in 23-24 October, 2019 at the Tbilisi Marriott, Tbilisi, Georgia. Hosts of the event were the nuclear and radiation regulators of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova (GUAM countries). The event was facilitated by the Civil Council on Defense and Security and was supported by Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM), the European Union (EU) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The conference discussed the following topics: Policies and Practices in the Areas of Management of Nuclear and Radioactive Waste and Radioactive Sources and the Role of International Organizations; Legal and regulatory challenges in Nuclear and Radioactive Waste Management in GUAM Countries; Sharing Experiences in Management of Legacy Waste Facilities; Building National Capacity and Public Dialogue within NRWM; At the end of the conference hosts of the conference presented the ToR for “GUAM countries ‘regional cooperation in the areas of Nuclear and Radioactive Waste Safety and Security”.
